Walnut Coffee Table

This coffee table is made with Ash for the legs and shelf, which I stained black after my client saw the black Ash shelving unit, and a Walnut slab for the top. The measurements of this table are quite substantial, being 140x80cm, with top and legs to a thickness of 5cm. Needless to say it weighs quite a bit. It was one of those convenient pieces that allowed me to draw everything out in 1:1 scale so I could make sure all the measurements were perfect. I flattened the top slab, cut it to its final size filled the voids with epoxy, finally sanding up to 240. The base was finished in a water base polyurethane because it doesnt affect the stain in anyway, other finishes can strip it off slightly. The top was then finished in hardwax oil due to its matt finish, fantastic hydrophobic properties and its look on epoxy. I was very pleased with the final look of the piece and hope it will serve for decades to come.
